Douglas Campbell, co-author of “The Rescue of the Bounty: Disaster and Survival in Superstorm Sandy” is the featured guest at the Rathbun Library’s “Fridays at 5:30” speaker series, continuing June 20.
Campbell’s book chronicles the tragic sinking of the 180-foot sailboat, built in 1960 in Nova Scotia for MGM’s “Mutiny on the Bounty” and used in two of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies. She and her crew left New London on Oct. 25, 2012 bound for St. Petersburg, Florida. On October 29th, in little over an hour, she would capsize in a sea of 30-foot waves, 90 miles off the coast of North Carolina in an area of the ocean known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic.” The Friends of Rathbun Library will provide refreshments in the garden; the event will be held indoors if it rains. The author will sign books and answer questions after the reading.
A $5 donation is requested. Visit Facebook.com/friendsOfRathbunLibrary or email firstname.lastname@example.org for information.

He has had a regular column in Messing About in Boats magazine since 2005, written for numerous boating magazines, and is the author and illustrator of several books. His pen and ink drawings, many of local historical sites, can be found at local shops and galleries.
